Retro Racing Games- Blur: (2010)

There were some pretty cool racing games that were released on various consoles such as the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 towards the late 00’s and the early 10’s.  When Bizzare Creations created Blur and 2010 it was meet with mixed reception from critics and players alike.  While the visual presentation of the game was impressive along with the concept of using weapons during races the game overall did not have much of a story.  In Blur players had to start off as street racers and meet the expectations of their rivals before racing against them.  The races in Blur were a lot more difficult than they looked especially considering the fact that players generally had to race against nineteen other drivers in single player mode.  Along with having so many opponents in single player mode the artificial intelligence in Blur seemed so advanced at a normal difficultly that it would tempt people to play the game on easy altogether.  While Bizzare Creations tried to make a decent attempt to merge elements of fantasy with reality by making Blur look similar to a Mario Kart game some people enjoyed while others questioned the concept altogether.

The idea of being able to utilize gadgets in races against opponents was very cool but at times it was distracting especially considering the fact that winning the race was hard enough as it was.  Along with having an exciting single player mode the offline and online multiplayer modes seemed very exciting and allowed people to enjoy the game itself for hours.  While the replay value of Blur is debatable among many people Blur was a decent racing for its time.  Some might argue that Blur could have possibly have been more popular while selling more units in America if rival racing games such as Gran Turismo 5 and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit was released in a different year other than 2010.  Even though, Blur may have not sold as much as people expected it was still an interesting game with a very difficult career mode and advanced artificial intelligence that will definitely make the game experience for players worth their time.
