Will we get a Mario Kart game for the Nintendo Switch?

As many of us know the Mario Kart series has been popular since the early 90’s on many Nintendo based consoles for over the past two decades.  As time progressed each Mario Kart game had improved in both quality and gameplay.  While some people might argue that some of the classic games such as Mario Kart 64,  Double Dash,  Mario Kart Wii and many others were amazing they must also be anxious about the future in regards to the series.  In terms of visual display Mario Kart 8 was fantastic when Nintendo released this game for the Nintendo Wii-U back in 2014.  Shortly, after the release of Mario Kart 8 it had sold at least 8 million units worldwide on the Nintendo Wii-U.  Despite, the amount of success that Mario Kart 8 had on the Wii-U it still paled in comparison to the Mario Kart game for the original Nintendo Wii which sold over 36 million units worldwide.  As of right now Mario Kart Wii is known as the best selling game within its series along with being one of the most successful game titles for the Nintendo Wii.

Even though, Mario Kart 8 did not sell nearly as much as Mario Kart Wii many people still consider the game to be a huge success and wonder if Nintendo can producer a sequel that would exceed their expectations for the Nintendo Switch.  While some of the best Mario Kart games were released on home based consoles such as the SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii and the Wii-U Nintendo had released some memorable handheld games such as Mario Kart Super Circuit and Mario Kart 7.  Anyone who owned a  Nintendo 3DS can understand how impressive Mario Kart 7 following it release five years ago.  Since Mario Kart 7 was such a great game it makes us question whether there will be a new game for the New Nintendo 3DS XL or the Nintendo Switch.  Some people probably would not mind seeing another Mario Kart game for the New Nintendo 3DS XL but if another Mario Kart title is released for the Nintendo Switch it could definitely contribute in a positive way to the overall sales of the console itself.

Should Nintendo make a remastered version of Mario Kart 64?

Sometimes its hard to believe that Mario Kart 64 was released about 20 years ago for the Nintendo 64 game console in December 1996.  Mario Kart 64 was definitely one of the  most revolutionary racing games that Nintendo has ever produced.  The transition from 2D racing on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System into 3D gameplay on the N64 was quite impressive and was considered to be the favorite game of many people who bought the console in the mid 90’s.  There were so many things about Mario Kart 64 that was amazing including the in game mechanics, level designs along with the soundtracks which made the game that much more memorable.  Mario Kart 64 is the game that started 3D racing within the Mario series and many people would probably agree that it exceeded their wildest expectations following its release in 1996.  Over the years there have been remakes of many great games that are considered to be classic in the eyes of gamers around the world.

In the past Nintendo has re-released and remake some classic titles such as the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask. While the Legend of Zelda series is quite popular as well many people feel that Mario Kart 64 would be placed on the list of Nintendo 64 games that also deserves to be remastered.  As of right now there has not been much talk about a new Mario Kart game for the Nintendo NX or the New Nintendo 3DS XL. Even though, there is a decent chance that we may see a Mario Kart 9 for the Nintendo NX many people would also love to see a remake of Mario Kart 64 especially considering the fact that it just passed its 20 year anniversary in December 2016.  While the Nintendo NX is promising to be something very special releasing a remastered version of Mario Kart 64 can possibly contribute to many people buying the console since its something they have been waiting a very long time to see.

Retro Gaming- Mario Kart Wii: (2008)

The Mario Kart games released by Nintendo have always been plenty of fun.  This was especially true when people had friends over for multiplayer gameplay.  Since the early 90’s the Mario Kart series has evolved in more ways than one.  Not only did the Mario Kart series make a successful transition from 2D to 3D gameplay but Nintendo have always found ways to keep the series interesting by adding new elements of gameplay.  Mario Kart Double Dash released for the Nintendo Gamecube in the early 00’s allowed players to have two characters race in a single vehicle.  Mario Kart Wii provides players with the opportunity to race throughout the game using a steering wheel along with the option of using a control pad.

Trying to play other Nintendo Wii games using the Wii Remote & nunchuck had seemed difficult but playing a racing title such as Mario Kart Wii appears to be both fun and challenging.  Mario Kart Wii is not only one of the most realistic games in the entire series but it also included many elements from the previous games in the series that older fans are familiar.with.  Mario Kart Wii includes over 20 characters along with some new ones including Dry Bowser, Rosalina and Funky Kong that people can unlock as they progress throughout the game.  Along with the general modes such as Grand Prix and Battle this game featured a new one called Tournament which can be played online on the Mario Kart Channel.  Depending on what type of gamer you were you either liked Tournament mode or you did not.  Sometimes Grand Prix mode was good enough for many people while others had no interest in playing online due to issues of other players cheating during races.

Along with the gameplay the visual design for the stages in Mario Kart Wii were fantastic.  Some of the stages in this game that were very cool included Daisy Circuit, Koopa Cape, Mushroom Gorge and Koopa Cape.  Bowser’s Castle for whatever reason is always among the best when it comes to stages in any Mario Kart game along with being the most challenging.  Since its release Mario Kart Wii has sold at least 36 million units worldwide along with being the best selling game within the entire series.  The amount of sales for Mario Kart Wii was almost six times more than its predecessor for the Nintendo GameCube known as Mario Kart Double Dash which sold close to seven million worldwide.  Since the release of Mario Kart Wii it has been commonly referred to as one of the best racing games that Nintendo has ever made during the 2000’s decade.

Classic Gaming- Mario Kart Super Circuit: (2001)

Mario Kart Super Circuit was a racing game that was released for the Game Boy Advance 15 years ago.  If you are a retro gamer who grew up in the 2000’s sometimes it would be hard to believe that such time has passed since then.  Mario Kart Super Circuit was a pretty cool game because it highly resembled the original Super Mario Kart game released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991.  At the time Mario Kart Super Circuit was probably one of the best racing titles to be released for the Game Boy Advance.  Having a 32-bit Mario Kart title for the Game Boy Advance was the closest thing we got a port of the original SNES game released in the early 90’s.  There were so many things about Mario Kart Super Circuit that were exciting from the gameplay all the way down to the soundtrack.

The stage designs for Mario Kart Super Circuit were both beautiful and creative while providing the nostalgic feeling of the 16-bit classic SNES title.  This game had included some familiar stages such as Luigi’s Circuit and Bowser’s Castle that were remade to make this Mario Kart game more enjoyable.  There were also some new stages in Mario Kart Super Circuit that not only had fantastic designs but also included some of the most underrated soundtracks anyone would hear in a racing game.  The Sky Garden stage had a legendary tune and while some people debate that the Mario Kart DS version was better the Game Boy Advance version was amazing.    The soundtrack for Ribbon Road was probably one of the best next to Sky Garden because the tune blended in perfectly with the stage itself. Not only was the BGM for Ribbon Road both dreamy & playful but it also provided a very light-hearted vibe that made the stage more enjoyable.  The theme for Shy Guy Beach & Cheep Cheep Island was among one of the most relaxing tunes in the game along with having nice stage design.

While critics might argue about the gameplay for Mario Kart Super Circuit the itself was very good for title that was released for the Game Boy Advance.  The composers for the music Mario Kart Super Circuit were very creative and were able to make some incredible soundtracks that added to the quality of the game itself.  The developers of this game did an excellent job recreating the gameplay of the original Super Mario Kart game while adding new elements to the game to make it an unforgettable racing title for the Game Boy Advance.  Mario Kart Super Circuit had received strong approval from various publications including IGN, GamePro, Eurogamer and others for being such a great racing game.  As we all know there have numerous Mario Kart games that have been released within the past 25 years that we all enjoyed.  Even though, the Mario racing games for the home consoles such as the SNES, N64, GameCube and the Wii are normally  talked about more than Super Circuit the game itself is still a very great racing title for any type of handheld based console in general.

Classic Gaming- Mario Kart Double Dash: (2003)

Out of all of the Mario Kart games that have been released in over the past two decades Mario Kart Double Dash probably stands out most.  Mario Kart Double Dash was very unique since it dramatically improved upon the various features that were featured in the Nintendo 64 prequel.  Almost everything about this game from high quality gameplay to visual presentation was fantastic.  The concept of players being allowed to choose two characters who could switch positions between driving and using weapons against other competitors was very creative.  Another thing great about this feature included the idea that players could either team up with their friend as partners during a race versus racing against them separately during Grand Prix mode.  The roster for Mario Kart Double Dash was over twice the size of the prequel and included at least 20 characters old and new to the Mario racing series.

This game features returning favorites such as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and a few others.  Double Dash also includes many new characters such as Waluigi, Baby Mario & Luigi, Petey Puranha, King Boo and others that many people haven been wanting to play as since Mario Kart 64.  Another thing about this game that was special included the fact that each character were given special items despite their progress within a race along with having the ability to obtain normal items.  While the soundtracks for Mario Kart SNES & N64 were special this game had also included great BGM that gets players excited while playing Double Dash.  Some of the best soundtracks in the game included Wario Colosseum and Mushroom City among others.  Bowser’s Castle theme was also pretty good because it made the stage seem slightly more scary than it actually was.

Some of the level designs in this game were also very creative including Wario’s Colosseum which looks much better than Wario’s Stadium in Mario Kart 64.  The Mushroom city race track was reminiscent of Toad’s Turnpike when having to deal with oncoming traffic while trying to complete the course.    The battle stages in this game were also pretty cool especially Luigi’s Mansion & Pipe Plaza which was also very fun to play with friends.   The Nintendo GameCube stage in the middle of space was also nice because it was something very different than what we have seen in the previous Mario titles.  One of the in game features that stands out LAN Play which allowed over fifteen players which were plenty of fun.   After its release Mario Kart Double Dash was praised by gaming publications for being an exciting racing title.  Mario Kart Double Dash was a title that not only exceeded the expectations of people who were fans of the previous game but it was also one of the best racing games that Nintendo had released during the early 00’s.
